The Romans Project (mp3 players project)
Several years ago, John Corey, a long time friend of Downtown Bible Class and life-long missionary to Africa, contacted us with an appeal to broadcast in Liberia, West Africa. Throughout his years of labor in Liberia, John saw a growing need for biblical teaching and training of Liberian pastors. In many areas of Africa, there are few opportunities or resources for pastors to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Bible.
By God's grace, in 2004, through connections with a local radio station, we were able to launch DBC-Liberia! Since then, we have also added broadcasts in Ghana.
In 2005, John began taking Mp3 players with Bible messages on them to Liberia. Founded on the principles of Deuteronomy 17:18--John encouraged Liberian pastors to read the book of Romans 20 times and copy the entire book into a notebook word for word. Upon completion, each pastor was given an Mp3 player containing 109 DBC messages from the book of Romans, over 80 hours of verse by verse exposition of this book that is sometimes called “The Constitution of Christianity”. In addition, teaching from several other DBC book series was also included, reaching a total of over 400 expository Bible messages. Amazingly, all this could be done for $25 per delivered player.
The impact was incredible! I am enclosing a brochure to share with you some of the specific ways that God has used The Mp3 Africa Project in the lives of Liberian pastors and their congregations. Through God's blessing, opportunities for the expansion of this project are growing throughout Liberia and other English-speaking African countries where pastors are hungry for God's Word.
